Sunrise Calendar App Reviews

Alerts/Banners Do Not Work

Not a useful calendar if you need reminder functions.

Laggy

I dont remember this with earlier versions, but now almost every other click on the app causes the cursur to turn into the spinner. I dont know why this is happening, because Im not trying to do anything special at all. If the lag can be resolved this calendar is great, but without it I dont see me sticking with it for very many more iterations of updates.

RIP

Thanks for killing it microsoft. Rest in Peace.

No CalDAV Support

Unreal - no support for one of the most widely used calendar formats in existance? This is a completely useless app without CalDAV support.

Bugs recently!

Same deal as one of the higher rated comments — love the app, but really annoying bugs with deleting recurring events recently — they just keep coming back >.>

Decent, but lots of opportunities

My primary calendars are in Google, but within there I’ve got it pulling a couple different iCal calendars as well. I love Sunrise on my iOS devices, and I actually appreicate the syncing of the accounts so I don’t have to configure each of my devices/computers/etc, but the Mac App version is definitely a work in progress. The biggest issue is that closing the Sunrise window (Command-W) makes it impossible to access the calendar without then quitting the app and restarting. Other annoyances: * It’d be nice to be able to set a map provider preference. For example, from the edit view of an event with a location, clicking on the address shows Apple Maps integration, and clicking directions from there opens in Maps. From the event view though, clicking the address opens it in Chrome and Google Maps (which is what I’d prefer in all case). * No Notifications Center widget - it’s great that I didn’t have to reconfigure and add all the various accounts and calendars I use, but I can’t see them in the Notifications Center since there’s no widget. Which basically means I’ll have to go and configure the Apple Calendar app (and add the iCal calendars separately) Unfortunately, with the aquisition of Sunrise by Microsoft, they’ve announced in the blog posts they’re not going to be working on the apps anymore, and are now part of the Outlook team :(

THIS IS A DUD!

Like other have said this app is a dud! I can’t believe this is the same name that did the sunrise app on iOS which is amazing. The design is bad as it looks more like a big web page, there’s no Exchange support and other minor features.

So much potential, so much Microsoft (even before the purchase)

I really like this calendar. It looks and functions perfectly—on my Mac. But trying to get it to sync on my iPhone has been a problem. If I could sync those with my Apple Calendar, I would be most happy. But, anticipating Microsoft’s soft touch, that just isn’t possible. Sigh.

Much better than many

But I agree with other reviewers, there are some critical issues that need fixes.

Doesn’t support Exchange

For a Microsoft app, that’s kind of sad. Such an ommission makes it a non-starter for many of us.

Good although there are opportunities for improvement

The experience on OS X is pretty good and streamline across all difference devices. Only feature I’d like to see is the addition of the notification center widget, much like the experience on iOS that is already available. That would make this app a 5-star.

I remember when I was a kid...

Sunrise used to be my favorite (and most recommended) app. I LOVED it and used it across all devices. Since Microsoft decided to stop support of this amazing app, my experience has been the exact opposite. It will no longer sync across devices, events disappear and don’t show up. Microsoft, you behaved exactly as I expected. Now my rule of never buying a windows based device extends over to the software you support. Sorry.

Exchange accounts missing

Description indicates the app supports Exchange calendars but there isn’t an option to add an Exchange account in the preferences. I tried both Outlook.com and Office365 accounts for this but those didn’t work, of course.

Such an awesome concept, but wildly unstable.

The idea and promises of this app were AMAZING. You can see glimmers of this when you use the web version of the app, which looked interesting, clean, and intuitive. In particular, the integration with other services was impression. However, the desktop app worked only once. Literally once. Every other time the web app immediately crashed or just opens a blank grey screen I would recommend trying the phone applicationa and the web client, but the OSX application is unusable at the moment. Far, far, far from organizational zen.

Really frustrated

I originally had this app on my iPhone and now I have it on my mac. However, almost every time I add an event, it automatically changes it to “all day event.” As I work three jobs and am a full-time college student you can probably see why this is problematic.

Time for an update

Sunrise is awesome, but the Mac app has fallen way behind the iOS app. Simple things like being able to drag the start/end time when editing an event are nonexistant. I also get the same bug as one of the other reviewers where an event will sometimes not get added when I click “Save” but will show up again in like 10 minutes. My BIGGEST gripe though is that there is no way to copy an event. Can’t there be at least some sort of copy/paste functionality? Sometimes I have an event that is exactly the same that happens on both Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s not recurring, because it only happens twice, but I can’t copy and paste it over. So annoying. Update this app to be as good as its iOS equivalent and this will be an easy 5/5 stars for me.

Not bad

Needs a month view.I still need to use the default apple calendar in order to see a monthly overview of my schedule at a glance.

decent calendar app

My only negative feedback is with this calendar app is when sending event to someone that the time zone gets messed up. I hope they fix this. I use this for all my booking of clients for my photo session. iPhone and macbook syncs great.

Needs .ics support

Useless to me without being able to import .ics calendar events.

Great free app, but could benefit from some other features.

I switched from Fantastical because $50 for the newer full desktop application instead of the taskbar one is ridiculous. So far I like using the app and it comes with some pretty cool features like Meet and the “Interesting Calendars.” It looks really nice too and pairs well in split screen mode with reminders. Adding appointments is quick and easy. It does pair well with the iPhone app and I like the UI on the iPhone version a lot. My one major gripe with it is that it doesn’t differentiate itself much from the default Calendar app. Aside from the larger account integration, Meet, and “Interesting Calendars,” there’s not much of a difference. The thing I miss most about Fantastical is the natural language processing that made adding appointments super super quick and easy. Sunrise isn’t difficult and it does take away the frustration of the language processing not always being accurate, but once you learn the vernacular on Fantastical, it’s easy. Honestly I’d be willing to pay something like $10 for the desktop app and $3-5 for the iPhone app just for added language processing and some other added features. Overall, great app for anyone looking to stray away from the default apps. Best of all it’s free, and really great for a free app at that.
