I switched from Fantastical because $50 for the newer full desktop application instead of the taskbar one is ridiculous. So far I like using the app and it comes with some pretty cool features like Meet and the “Interesting Calendars.” It looks really nice too and pairs well in split screen mode with reminders. Adding appointments is quick and easy. It does pair well with the iPhone app and I like the UI on the iPhone version a lot.
My one major gripe with it is that it doesn’t differentiate itself much from the default Calendar app. Aside from the larger account integration, Meet, and “Interesting Calendars,” there’s not much of a difference.
The thing I miss most about Fantastical is the natural language processing that made adding appointments super super quick and easy. Sunrise isn’t difficult and it does take away the frustration of the language processing not always being accurate, but once you learn the vernacular on Fantastical, it’s easy. Honestly I’d be willing to pay something like $10 for the desktop app and $3-5 for the iPhone app just for added language processing and some other added features.
Overall, great app for anyone looking to stray away from the default apps. Best of all it’s free, and really great for a free app at that.
